The Name of War: King Philip's War and the Origins of American Identity by Jill Lepore; Winner of the Bancroft Prize

About:

King Philip’s War, the excruciating racial war—colonists against Indigenous peoples—that erupted in New England in 1675, was, in proportion to population, the bloodiest in American history. Some even argued that the massacres and outrages on both sides were too horrific to “deserve the name of a war.”

Alayne's Thoughts:

I am almost embarrassed to say that I don't know nearly as much about King Philip's War as I should considering that it took place basically in my backyard. I can't wait to read this as I am sure Jill Lepore has done her usual outstanding job in both her research and her lively voice making everything she writes so much more interesting.
